Would You Eat Shrimp That Hasn’t Been Deveined? Let’s Talk!
Imagine sitting down for dinner with your family, and your mother-in-law serves a delicious plate of shrimp. Everything looks perfect until you notice that the shrimp still has the dark vein running down its back.
You politely ask if the shrimp has been deveined, and she tells you no. Suddenly, you’re not so sure you want to eat it!
Some people believe deveining shrimp is absolutely necessary before cooking, while others say it’s perfectly fine to eat shrimp without removing
the vein. After all, the dark line is usually the shrimp’s digestive tract, and although it may contain waste, it isn’t technically a vein.
For many people, removing it is simply a matter of cleanliness, taste, and texture. Others don’t mind eating shrimp that hasn’t been deveined, especially when it’s cooked properly.
But what would YOU do if this happened at a family dinner? Would you eat the shrimp to avoid offending your mother-in-law, or would you politely refuse and make sure your children didn’t eat it either?
LET’S SETTLE
THIS DEBATE!
A. I would eat it without worrying.
B. I wouldn’t eat shrimp that hasn’t been deveined.
C. I always devein shrimp before cooking it.
D. It depends on how the shrimp looks and smells.
Be honest! What would you do, and would you let your children eat it?
