'Just Fell'
On March 24, 2026, in Hanoi,
Vietnam a 20-year-old college student became an unlikely hero and then tried to
keep it to himself.
Nguyen Le Tu was heading
home from the gym when he noticed flames consuming a six story building.
Inside, seven people were trapped, with the stairwell completely blocked by
fire.
Without hesitation, Tu
rushed to help.
Using a ladder from
outside, he guided two elderly residents to safety. But as he prepared to step
away, he learned that women and children were still trapped deeper inside the
building.
He did not hesitate. He
climbed in.
The smoke inside was
thick and suffocating, leaving him with almost no visibility.
"As soon as I smelled the first wave of
smoke my eyes started stinging and I found it hard to breathe. It got so thick
it was really hard to breathe," he told
